Greed

MICHELLE WILLIAMS AND NATALIE PORTMAN in"GREED"

FRANCESCO VEZZOLI "Greed"

MARCEL DUCHMAP "Belle Haleine: Eau de Voilette"

One of my favorite artists Francesco Vezzoli has just produced a film (directed by Roman Polanski) about a fictitious perfume called Greed. The film stars Natalie Portman and Michelle Williams and is currently on view at Gagosian Gallery in Rome. In the film Portman and Williams fight over an ornate bottle of perfume, which is adorned with a label featuring an image of Vezzoli in drag. Vezzoli's film is a nod to the father of ready made art, Marcel Duchamp, who once took a bottle a perfume and pasted his own label on it. Duchamp's piece entitled, "Belle Haleine: eue de Voilette" also features a portrait of Duchamp dressed as his female alter ego Rrose Sélavy, the photo was taken by none other than Man Ray. As an artist Vezzoli has long been preoccupied with the concept of truth, seduction, and I would say irony...all of which are present in his latest film.

Vezzoli's piece is on view at Gagosian Rome through March 21, so if you're lucky enough to be there check it out!
